Yorkshire tourism awards 2009

Tuesday 20th October 2009

The winners of this year's Yorkshire tourism accolades included a plush serviced apartment block in Leeds and a Tadcaster pub.

But the big White Rose Awards prizes were scooped by attractions in North Yorkshire, with the National Railway Museum in York coming out on top.

It won the tourism experience award for its theatrical collaboration, The Railway Children, with York Theatre Royal.

Around 800 guests from across the region's tourism industry were at the Royal Armouries in Leeds last night for a dinner organised by tourism agency, Welcome to Yorkshire.

Linda Banks from the Wakefield tourist information centre took the outstanding customer service award.

The self catering/serviced apartments prize went to Residence 6 in Leeds city centre and Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton, Tadcaster, was the top pub.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Yorkshire tourism deserves its moment to congratulate the best of its colleagues and peers and as a region we certainly have a lot to be proud of."

Fourteen of this year's winners will now be entered into the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2010.
