Climb Hull Minster's tower, this 13th-century landmark hosts regular events and its tower tours offer scenic views across the Marina, docks and Humber Estuary.

Philip Larkin, one of Britain's best-loved poets, lived and worked in Hull for over 30 years as chief librarian at the University of Hull. William Wilberforce, the politician and abolitionist who led the campaign to end the British slave trade, was born in Hull in 1759. His childhood home is now Wilberforce House Museum and a 102-foot monument to him still stands in Queen's Gardens. Hull is the only city in the UK with its own independent telephone network, which is why its phone boxes are cream rather than the traditional red.

Education is far from short in Hull, with families spoilt for choice across primary, secondary and further education, along with plenty of additional support available. The city is home to over 70 primary schools catering for children aged 4 to 11, alongside 14 secondary schools, many offering sixth form provision, plus a good range of options for pupils with special educational needs. Hull train station adds to that convenience, with direct and regular services to nearby towns, plus quick links to Leeds, Sheffield and London.
