Six of our staff are following in the footsteps of Leeds’ most famous sporting brothers by competing in Alistair and Jonny Brownlee’s Legacy Tri.
The successful Olympians have organised the gruelling race at Harewood House on Saturday September 26, when participants will take part in an open water swim around the country houses picturesque lake; a traffic-free bike route taking in last years historic Tour de France roads; and a new off-road run along grass paths and trails.
Team one for Linley & Simpson comprises Nicola Sutton (swim); Jeremy Bladon (bike) and Will Linley (run). While the second team includes Dan Bond (swim); Ross Harding (cycle); and Harriet Welham (run).
Jeremy, valuation manager at our Linley & Simpsons Roundhay branch, is the driving force behind our involvement, which will raise money in aid of the nominated good cause for the event, Macmillan Cancer Support.
He said: When I turned 40 three years ago, I was overweight and ran the London Marathon to raise some pounds for charity as well as shed some of my own!
I lost over 4 stone through the training process but since then have put quite a bit of that weight back on.
It has always been my ambition to do a triathlon and, combined with the Linley & Simpson cycle-to-work initiative, the Brownlee Legacy Tri seemed a great kick-start to get fit again and promote some team bonding.
He added: It will be great to take part in a triathlon in such stunning surroundings, which take in not just part of the Tour de France route but also the same facilities where the Brownlee brothers train and which played such a key part in their Olympic glory.
