Why Michael Davies CePAP, Senior Sales Manager is our inspirational man this International Men's Day.
How do you try to be a role model for those in your team?
I always endeavour to lead by example and treat others how I wish to be treated; you can never be too kind!
What inspired you to start a career in property?
I fell into property by accident after I finished university, starting off as a temp helping to sell shared ownership homes at a housing association in Manchester. When a permanent role in the same department became available, I jumped at the chance to apply, as by then I knew that I wanted to help people find their perfect home. That was 30 years ago and here I am today, still working in property.
How has your journey with your brand evolved so far?
I joined L&S from an acquisition 4 years ago this month. Initially, the transition to a larger organization felt overwhelming, but I’ve really benefited from having the support of peers, who I can turn to for advice and to bounce ideas off. Since then, I’ve achieved the CePAP qualification, merged two branch sales teams into one, and in the last 12 or so months, I’ve become more involved in project work as part of a Senior Sales team at L&S, which has presented fresh but welcome challenges.
What do you love about your job?
Helping people - clients, customers, colleagues and most importantly my team.
What advice would you give to younger people entering the property industry?
Be prepared to work hard, and be flexible i.e., this is not a 9-5 industry. Clients will thank you for going above and beyond, even if it’s working a little over to get a positive result for them. And keep to your promises – if you say you will call someone back, please do!
How do you take care of your physical and mental well-being?
A good walk usually takes care of both, plus a good pint/a very large glass of wine at the end of the working week!
Do you have a particular moment or accomplishment you are proud of?
Merging two sales branches into one is a standout moment from the last 4 years – trying to maintain great customer service whilst managing the practicalities was testing at times, but we came out of it a stronger team.
What's a fun fact about you?
I probably love AML checks, processes and audits a little too much!
