Linley & Simpson have partnered with Henshaws in Harrogate as part of their community initiative for 2020.
Linley & Simpson funded the purchases of two new Samsung Galaxy Android Tablets which will be used as an additional learning tool to support students with sight loss to use technology to aid their independence with day to day tasks. The devices will be used to better inform students of what the technology can do for them to support independence.
The devices use a specialist software to enable students to access the device using text to speech accessibility features. Gemma Young, Yorkshire Fundraising Manager says, 'Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate is a transformational place. Through a personalised approach to education, learning and care we empower young people living with a disability to make their aspirations possible and their goals a reality. Linley and Simpson’s kind donation will allow us to purchase two new Samsung Galaxy Android tablets, which will support students with sight loss to use technology to aid their independence with day to day tasks.
'The tablets will be brilliant aids for text to speech accessibility features along with other tools such as zoom and magnification, contrast changes and gesture controls. There are a growing number of apps which can support independent access to materials, by transcribing live documents into audio, route planning and way finding. The devices will also connect to a number of specialist braille devices as an external screen to support staff and students in session. We are hugely grateful for this brilliant local partnership, and excited to work together in the future to support and give back to the community.'
Anthony Metcalfe, Linley & Simpsons Harrogate Branch Manager says, 'We are committed to giving back to local communities in our area and we are excited to be working with Henshaws by providing support for their learning opportunities.'
Henshaws will also benefit from Linley & Simpsons Give Back Scheme, where businesses will donate £250 to the college when someone lets or sells a property through them and is associated with Henshaws.
