YORK is to launch the city's first annual business conference in October.

The event will explore ways of creating the right environment for start-ups in the city, encouraging businesses to relocate to York and supporting the growth of existing companies.

City of York Council leader James Alexander said: "“York's economy is relatively strong, especially in comparison with many other northern cities, but there is more we can do.

"The recession has had a significant impac

“Research shows that a strong economy and high employment is vital to narrowing the inequality gap between the richest and poorest in our society. The business conference will provide us with an opportunity for business leaders across the region to come together to debate how we address these issues.”
