SIMON Lewis, Lettings Manager of the Linley & Simpson Holmfirth branch discusses why Holmfirth makes an ideal place to invest.

“The market in Holmfirth has always been strong for landlords but since the first lockdown it has grown further and faster with rents higher than they have ever been. Being in a semi-rural location with easy access to bigger towns such as Huddersfield and Barnsley, the motorway network with the M1 and M62 for Leeds and Manchester yet within walking distance of the Peak District to escape busy, modern day life makes it an ideal place to live.

“Holmfirth has always been popular to tourists following the Last of the Summer Wine TV show, boasting regular events such as the food and drinks festival, plenty of amenities and great schools plus a fantastic night life too. Trying to find a tenant is possibly the easiest part of our job as properties always have a range of applicants to choose from.

“Rents are higher the closer to Holmfirth centre you get but there are smaller areas to live in on the outskirts of Holmfirth such as Honley, Kirkburton, Denby Dale and Meltham which still have high rents but are cheaper properties to buy for investors.

“Holmfirth and the surrounding areas offer a wide range of properties from apartments and cottages to character properties and large new builds. There is a property type for every tenant here. The highest demand currently seems to be for properties with gardens and outdoor space, without a doubt the result of us all being stuck at home during lockdown! Similarly a preference for an extra bedroom to use as a home office means the three plus bedroom properties are enticing the most enquiries.”
