Linley & Simpson’s office in Northgate is the first of the company’s 11 Yorkshire branches to throw itself behind a new challenge to support charities and young sporting talent in the district.

From walking the Three Peaks to staging car boot sales and helping clothes and furniture collections - all in their own time - the team aims to scale new heights by setting itself the target of raising £1,500 in aid of Wakefield Hospice during the year.

The independent agency, which specialises in residential sales and lettings, has supported the branch by kicking off a sponsorship deal with the Durkar Devils under-12s football team, which includes new kit and a further donation to develop this grass-roots club.

It has also sponsored Rebecca Rogers, who plays for Sandal Girls’ Rugby Club.

“We pride ourselves at being at the very heart of the community and this initiative is all about helping a range of good causes where some support can make a big difference,” said branch manager Emma Hodgson, herself Wakefield born and bred.

“There is no shortage of skills in our community and, as a people business rather than a bricks and mortar one, felt it was important to recognise the contribution they make and contribute to their future success.”

She added: “We have helped many thousands of people move home since we opened our doors in the city centre and the work of Wakefield Hospice has touched the lives of all of them at some point, whether it be caring for a family member, friend, work colleague, neighbour – or even themselves.”

As well as the Three Peaks Challenge, which will be walked by Emma alongside colleague Helen Whitworth, the branch is staging a fund-raising competition to guess how many sweets are in the jar as well as a raffle in aid of the hospice.

The raffle has drawn upon the support of other companies across the Wakefield community who have rallied around to offer this set of prizes:
